The Cardiopulmonary Function Testing Laboratory was established in 1998 mainly by Professor Stephan Kostianev. At that time CardioO2 apparatus by Medical Graphics was received. The Laboratory was entirely developed in 1999 by Professor Kostianev and Dr. Marinov. Overall testing of patients’ functional capacity is being performed in this Laboratory using various overburden tests. The Laboratory is currently the only one which gives the possibility scientific standardization of the widely used walking tests to be performed in order to establish cardiopulmonary failure.

The main dissertation themes at the Department are being worked out in this Laboratory in the recent years. The first steps in functional capacity testing were made in the middle of the 1980s when Ergooxyscreen apparatus by JAEGER was delivered.
