The
first Pathophysiology Department
in Bulgaria was established
at the Medical University
of Plovdiv by Prof. L. Telcharov
in 1947. More than 50 years
it remains a leader in Bulgarian
scientific research, successfuly
managing with the chalanges
of modern technology and
methodology.
Pathophysiology
is one of the fundamental
disciplines in medicine.
Even its name reveals the
close connection with Physiology
on one hand and with Pathology
on the other. Pathologic
physiology is the binding
link between preclinical
and clinical disciplines.
Functional
diagnostics in several directions
is also performed in the
department:
Complex assessment of
external breathing (slow
spirometry, forced expiration
spirometry, bronchodilator
and challenge (bronchoprovocation)
tests, bodypletismography,
diffusion tests, blood-gas
analysis, acid base
analysis)
